Dr Scott Reynolds

Scott Reynolds, BEng, is a first year PhD student now studying at Southampton after completing a four year bachelor degree and 6 months of his PhD at the University of Surrey. While obtaining his bachelor degree he achieved the ECE award for the highest placement grade on his course stream.

During this time he developed an interest in photonics from his lectures with Graham Reed, who encouraged him to apply for a PhD in 2011. The work he will be carrying out towards his PhD will be in the area of wafer scale testing, producing a much needed testing method to allow for higher yield manufacture of photonic devices. In order to do this he will have to integrate multiple disciplines to produce an automated test rig.

In parallel to this he has been completing some experimental work on SOI ring resonators with controllable MMI coupler sections, under the guidance of Youfang Hu and has been completing processing solutions for the packaging of RF photonic devices with David Thomson.
