Two ORC students presenting at the European Materials Research Society’s (E-MRS’s) spring meeting, have won awards for their presentations at the Lille based conference.

PhD students Tina Parsonage and Ioannis Katis presented their work on ‘Pulsed Laser Deposition of Yb:Y2O3 Planar Waveguide Lasers’ and ‘Towards paper-based point-of-care diagnostics fabricated by Laser Induced Forward Transfer’ respectively.

Tina Parsonage commented: “My poster presentation was an excellent opportunity to present and discuss my work with other scientists, and being awarded with a best presentation certificate was an unexpected highlight of the conference for me.”

Ioannis Katis said: “I won one of the awards for best oral presentation in symposium J. The award also included 200 euro in cash for every winner. I am pleased, not only to receive the award, but because it has given me an opportunity to highlight our research into point of care diagnostics at a time when we are seeking collaborators on this project.”

The major society conference for the E-MRS, the Spring Meeting, is held annually in late spring and offers on average of 25 topical symposia with about 2,500 multi-disciplinary attendees every year.
