In this presentation the use of reflective volume Bragg gratings (VBG) for spectral control of solid-state lasers and optical parametric oscillators will be reviewed. A number of efficient lasers as diode lasers, diode-pumped solid-state lasers and fiber lasers, as well as optical parametric oscillators, have recently been to build tunable and narrowband coherent light-sources. The VBG provides means for single frequency operation without loss of efficiency as well as tuning.
Fredrik Laurell received his M. Sc. (Electrical Engineering, LTH) and Ph.D. (Physics, KTH) in 1983 1990, respectively. During 1990-1991 he was a visiting research scientist at DuPont Experimental Station, Wilmington, DE, USA and during 1992-1993 a project manager at the Institute of Optical Research, Stockholm, Sweden. He was employed as research associate at KTH in 1993, lecturer 1999 and professor of physics in 2001. Since 2006 he is the Deputy Head at the Department of Applied Physics at KTH. He is also the chairman of the Swedish Optical Society and chairs the Optics section at the Royal Academy of Science.
Laurell’s research spans studies of optical materials, nonlinear optics and laser physics. He has authored or co-authored more than 200 journal papers and holds 13 patents. He has also founded 4 companies and received the Göran Gustafsson Price in Physics 2003.
