ORC hold annual Colloquium
The Optoelectronics Research Centre recently held their annual Colloquium.
Organized by Dr Wei Loh this yearââ¬â¢s programme offered attendees three sessions of talks given by ORC staff and students and a poster session.
The opening session, presided by Professor Peter Smith included talks on the future of high-power fibre lasers, the progress of other lasers, periodically poled fibres producing valuable powers and using an optical frequency comb generator as a broadband pulse source.
Professor Rob Eason presided the second session - ââ¬ÅThe ORC ââ¬ËLast Lectureââ¬â¢ Seriesââ¬Â which comprised of a talk given by Dave Hanna, who retired in 2007 entitled ââ¬ÅCool living on a hot planet.ââ¬Â
Talks about UV written sensors, optical fibres going nano and a tunable free-electron light source on a chip were given at the third session which was presided by Dr. Bill Brocklesby. The final talk of the session ââ¬ÅA theory of creativityââ¬Â was given by Dr Wei Loh.
The last session of the day comprised of a poster session and competition sponsored by fibre laser company, Fianium, the winner is due to be announced later this month.
