Zepler research group named as TechWorks Awards finalist

The Electronic Materials & Devices Research Group at the University of Southampton’s Zepler Institute for Photonics and Nanoelectronics has been selected as a finalist in the 2018 TechWorks Awards ‘University Research Group of the Year’.

The Southampton Group joins Imperial College Wireless Power Lab and PET+ATER in the category, with the TechWorks Awards widely known as being one of the highest accolades in the UK Deep Tech Industry. Professor Themis Prodromakis, who leads the Southampton Group said: “We are delighted to be a finalist in these prestigious awards. Being recognised in the UK’s deep tech industry on a platform such as this is testimony to the collective work of the whole Group and reinforces our ambition in achieving excellence.”

The Southampton Group has expertise in materials process development to electronic devices and circuits and systems for embedded applications. Its research includes the creation and characterisation of nanoelectronic systems and the study of bio-inspired devices, which borrows evolutionary solutions from the natural world and applies them in the design and creation of emerging technologies.

The TechWorks Awards mark the excellence of the industry that is driving the tech economy and becoming a strategic part of the UK’s and Ireland’s future. Finalists across the awards categories span the breadth of the industry through Manufacturing, Automotive, IoT Security, Electronic Systems & Power Electronics.

This year’s winners will be announced at the TechWorks Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony in London this week - hosted by BBC Political Broadcaster, John Sergeant. Over 300 industry professionals will attend this major social networking event of the year for the UK Deep Tech Industry.
