Introduction to X(2) processes
D.C.Hanna
Abstract
This paper gives an introduction to χ(2) processes from an historical point of view, highlighting some of the major developments that have contributed to the enormous enhancement, of around thirteen order of magnitude, in frequency conversion efficiency per unit pump power, since the earliest harmonic generation experiment. Current developments are also briefly reviewed, with emphasis on the recent achievements and prospects of quasi-phase-matched materials.
