A major new textbook  “Handbook of Optoelectronics” has just been published by Taylor and Francis. This 2-volume comprehensive reference book is edited by Prof John Dakin of the ORC, with Prof Robert Brown of  Nottingham University, and has chapters by many leading international specialists in the field. Six members of Southampton University staff, Neil Broderick, John Dakin, Tom Markvart, Tanya Monro (since left ORC) and Neil Ross have written or co-written book chapters, showing the highly active part the university plays in this area.
