ORC welcomes visiting researchers

Published: 12 April 2013

ORC staff and students gave a warm welcome to six colleagues from NTU (Nanyang Technological University), Singapore, joining the centre this week

The visiting researchers are a significant step in a new collaborative venture with NTU. Their arrival follows visits from a large delegation of ORC research staff visiting NTU late last year.

Professor Sir David Payne explained: “Both the University of Southampton and NTU are excited about working together in a new dual centre, where we can exploit our complementary skills in innovative photonics projects.”

Five of the researchers will be reporting to Professor Jayanta Sahu, and gaining experience in silica fibre fabrication within the ORC's state-of-the-art cleanrooms, while the sixth will be focusing on soft glass fabrication with Dan Hewak’s Chalcogenide Glass group.
