A striking image produced by ORC researcher, Martynas Beresna has won third prize in the OSA's 2011 After Image Photographic competition

The unexpected, beautiful diffraction pattern produced from a femtosecond laser written structure caught the judges attention.

“This is a nice femtosecond flower,” says competition judge, Francois Busque, Director of Research & Development at Numetrix Technologies in Canada.

This year the Optical Society received 40 beautiful images from all over the world. They showcased the breadth and depth of optics, in nature and the lab.
