Fernando Guzman Cruz

Postgraduate research student

Fernando Guzman received a BSc in Communication and Electronics Engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute, Mexico. After graduating he worked for an Intellectual Property (IP) law firm as a patent analyst, responsible for the Telecommunications patents branch. He has also had two years’ experience working as an Optical Network Engineer for Huawei Technologies in Mexico, responsible for the implementation and maintenance of new and existent optical fibre networks across the country, before joining the ORC as a PhD student.

Fernando’s current work involves the development of chalcogenide rare earth (RE)-doped optical fibres for the Infrared (IR) region. His interests include fibre lasers, fabrication glass processes, spectroscopy of RE and fibre fabrication. He is fluent in Spanish, English and Portuguese.
