Pr³⁺-doped Cs:Ga:S:Cl glass for efficient 1.3µm optical fibre amplifier

Abstract

The longest reported lifetime for the Pr³⁺:¹G₄ energy level was measured at 2.4 ms in Cs:Ga:S:Cl₂ glass, with a 24% total quantum efficiency. The Pr³⁺:¹G₄-³H₅ emission, peaking at 1312nm is centred in the second optical telecommunication window and the gain per unit pump power is predicted to be twice as high as that of other candidates.
