Abstract
Recently, observations of slow light propagation in the presence of electromagnetically induced transparency and its classical analogs have attracted a lot of attention. In this talk, we will show that by appropriate patterning of a metal surface, EIT-like dispersive effects can be observed in planar metamaterials. Although the thickness of such structures along the wave propagation direction is many times smaller than the wavelength, delays exceeding 40% of the pulse width have been observed in the GHz range. The bandwidth and transmission levels in the frequency band of sharp dispersion can be significantly increased by successively stacking several metamaterial structures.
