Adaptive pulse shaping of ultrafast mid-IR optical parametric oscillators

Adaptive pulse shaping of ultrafast mid-IR optical parametric oscillators
Adaptive pulse shaping of ultrafast mid-IR optical parametric oscillators
Ultrashort mid-infrared (MIR) pulses with controllable phase and amplitude properties have a variety of potential applications in the field of coherent control [1]. Several groups have demonstrated indirect programmable pulse shaping of MIR pulses by pulse shaping in the visible or near-infrared followed by difference frequency generation or parametric amplification to reach the MIR [1-5]. In this work, we apply these techniques to a synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillator (SPOPO) allowing efficient operation at low pulse energies and with high repetition rates. An adaptive learning loop, governed by global optimisation algorithms, is used to optimise the pulse shape for a given application.
