GHz-repetition-rate pulse multiplication using a sampled fiber Bragg grating

GHz-repetition-rate pulse multiplication using a sampled fiber Bragg grating
GHz-repetition-rate pulse multiplication using a sampled fiber Bragg grating
Recent advances in the fabrication of Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs) allow the production of complex FBG structures with precisely controlled amplitude and phase reflectivity characteristics. This capability opens up the possibility of using FHG for coherent control in short pulse applications such as communications and pump-probe spectroscopy. For example, we recently demonstrated pattern generation and recognition using weak, superstructure FBGs. In this paper we demonstrate the use of a superstructure FBG for pulse repetition rate multiplication obtaining a 40 GHz pulse train from a 10 GHz input.
