Titanium diffused waveguides in sapphire

Titanium diffused waveguides in sapphire
Titanium diffused waveguides in sapphire
Fabrication of optical waveguides in sapphire by the thermal diffusion of titanium is reported. Single mode operation at λ = 633nm was observed following diffusion at 1950±30°C for up to 3.5 hours. Waveguide mode intensity profiles are given and mode depths between 6.2µm and 9.6µm were obtained in the TE polarisation.

Abstract

Fabrication of optical waveguides in sapphire by the thermal diffusion of titanium is reported. Single mode operation at λ = 633nm was observed following diffusion at 1950±30°C for up to 3.5 hours. Waveguide mode intensity profiles are given and mode depths between 6.2µm and 9.6µm were obtained in the TE polarisation.
