About us

The University of Southampton Optical Society comprises the University of Southampton Optical Society of America (OSA) Student Chapter, the University of Southampton SPIE Student Chapter and the University of Southampton European Physical Society (EPS) Student Chapter.

The University of Southampton OSA Student Chapter was established in 1994 by a group of graduate students at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC). The chapter has flourished over the past two decades, with many accolades to its name, including the OSA Student Chapter Excellence Award, an honour which has been presented to the chapter three times.

Both the SPIE and EPS Student Chapters were formed in early 2011, comprising a group of graduate students at the ORC. These young chapters hope to build on the successes of our OSA Student Chapter, and increase our professional network further out with the ORC.
