Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Optical fibre amplifiers

Applicants are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in the area of optical fibre amplifiers. The project will involve the development of novel state-of-the-art Multimode erbium doped optical fibre amplifiers for long haul Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO)transmission systems. The project is sponsored by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) as part of a collaborative project involving researchers at University of Southampton, University College London, University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.
Applicants must have a strong background in lasers and optics with research experience in fibre lasers and/or amplifiers and excellent experimental skills. The applicants will be expected to work as part of a cohesive team and to interact with project partners. A PhD in Physics/Engineering or equivalent with relevant experience at postgraduate/postdoctoral level in fibre lasers and/or amplifiers is essential. A hands-on approach is necessary along with a keen interest in developing new physical ideas from proof-of-principle to implementation.
The appointment is initially for a 2-year period with potential for further extension.
