Mountbatten building short listed for architectural award
The new Mountbatten building has been short listed for a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) award.
The building designed by architects Jestico + Whiles is up for the South Region award in the education section.
RIBA South Regional Director, Linda Mills recently visited the site along with a panel of three judges. They were given a guided tour by ORC Director, Professor David Payne; Head of ECS Professor Harvey Rutt and Julian Dickens from Jestico + Whiles.
The panel were given an insight into the work Mountbatten will support and the complexity the building design and structure had to be to incorporate certain equipment such as the fibre drawing tower.
The award winners are due to be announced in May.
RIBA Awards are given for buildings with high architectural standards that make a substantial contribution to the local environment. The awards have been running annually since 1966.
