New Mountbatten Building nears completion
The Mountbatten Building project has continued to progress in line with its projected programme for completion in mid-October 2008.
The removal of the last crane on Saturday (7 June) is another indication of the approaching completion of the building and much of the work on the external elevations has now been completed.
It is now possible to appreciate the overall effect of the chiro fractal patterning which covers the external glass surrounding the building.
Internally, the clean rooms are now fully established and some fitting out work has commenced, although work is currently focused on the testing and commissioning of the areas prior to seeking clean room validation in July. The laboratories on level 2 have largely been completed and await installation of the fixed furniture.
Work is currently underway on the completion of the common room and seminar facilities which open out into the roof terrace.
The new building is scheduled to be handed over to the University in mid-July. Staff from the Optoelectronics Research Centre and the School of Electronics and Computer Science will move into the new building in August and the fit-out of labs and clean rooms will begin at the same time.
