Abstract
Phase change data storage materials have been used for in rewriteable DVD and CDs for many years. For this PhD research, new materials have been investigated for electrical data storage and future optical storage technologies. High throughput combinatorial, thin film, deposition techniques have been adopted to investigate the full range of material compositions. An optical setup to measure the phase change times of these compositionally spread films has also been developed.
The talk will cover the following areas:
- Introduction to phase change technology
- Development of the Optical static tester
- Characterisation and Analysis of GeSbTe, BiSbTe and GaLaS materials
